In the past, the DLA/DMU refused to review utter garbage, which is generally the right decision except when that garbage is the default for the subgenre chosen by market inertia. In other words, when it is what most people see under the $subgenre label at stores.
By most accounts, Funeral Mist represents the cutting edge of black metal. Yet there is no black metal here, only droning riffs dominated by vocal theatrics and lots of pounding drums. This is normie music pretending to be occult, underground, elite, etc.
If this album has a sin, it is being boring. All of the drama is on the surface, and none in the composition, which makes for an excruciating first listen and catatonic repeat listens. This is not music, but prime time television style churn drama masquerading as black metal.
